It’s starting again this year! Kicking off today (Feb 18,2026)!Kyoto’s hugely popular Jonangu Shrine “Weeping Plum & Camellia Festival” has officially begun

I recently visited the night illuminations at To-ji and Kiyomizu-dera. At To-ji, I used JR Central’s Special Early Entry for the nighttime admission, and it was absolutely worth the extra 800 yen—far fewer people and plenty of time to capture the beautiful reflection of the Five-storied Pagoda. Kiyomizu-dera was glowing with its famous blue “Kannon Beam,” and even though the autumn leaves were past their peak, the scenery was still stunning. This article covers my experience at both temples, along with the full 2025 illumination details.

visited on November 24, 2025, and the autumn illumination was absolutely breathtaking. Right after sunset, the entire shrine grounds were wrapped in a soft crimson glow. Around 3,000 maple trees light up all at once, creating a magical and dreamlike atmosphere.

Along the way, you’ll find Arabica Kyoto and the end point of the Hozugawa River Boat Ride, making it a perfect little stroll.

On Sept 27, 2025, Expo 2025 Osaka lit up the night sky with the “Thanks Fireworks.” This large-scale show was synchronized with music from the Germany Pavilion, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. Fireworks will continue every night until the Expo’s closing on October 13. Check the full schedule here.
