About Murou-ji Temple (Women’s Koya)

Murou-ji Temple「室生寺」, nestled quietly in the mountains of Nara and boasting about 1,200 years of history, is known as a “Women’s Koya” because it was one of the few sacred sites women were allowed to enter when Mount Koya prohibited female worshippers.

Founded in the late Nara period as a temple to pray for the health of the imperial family, its five-story pagoda (a National Treasure) is famous as the oldest wooden pagoda standing outdoors in Japan✨

🚶 Access: From Kintetsu “Murou-guchi Ono Station,” take a Nara Kotsu bus (500 yen one way) + approximately 5 minutes on foot
🚌 Last Bus: Departs Murou-guchi Ono Station at 4:44 PM (Please confirm schedules)
